How to Choose the Best Internship Programmes in Dubai

An internship offers an opportunity to potential employees (or interns) to work in an organisation for a certain pre-defined time period. These interns are mostly students who work with the organisation to get first-hand experience of practical work life. The internship period can last anywhere from a week or two to six months or a whole year, and can be either part-time or full-time.

Internships offer students practical experience in the industry corresponding to their field of study. A student is able to experience the real world challenges of regular work life through an internship. It is always an added advantage for students and individuals who gain valuable work experience during their internship and this also gets reflected in their resumes. This helps them attract the right type of employers who are looking for people with a fair amount of experience in their respective fields.

An internship is an opportunity for students to brush up their theoretical knowledge and apply it in the real world. Some organisations offer remuneration, known as a stipend, to their interns. These internship training programmes are offered by various institutes operating in Dubai and the UAE.

Here are some considerations to be kept in mind while choosing the best internship programme in Dubai:

·    Whether they provide you with domain experience: Internships should provide hands-on experience and help the intern to explore or gain relevant knowledge and skills required to their field of specialisation. As such, check out which of the programmes let you get practical experience in your own field and related domains.

·        Should give you comprehensive experience across departments: The good programmes will let you work in various departments and sub-units so you learn everything from an operational and managerial viewpoint. Check with your centre to ensure this is a part of the programme.

·     Mentoring from an expert: Interns must have an expert supervisor or mentor who will be responsible for assigning and supervising specific tasks. They would mentor and evaluate the interns and help them learn new skills. Talk to your centre’s counsellors to understand the practical application of the internship on a day-to-day level so you learn the ropes.

·         Regular feedback: The internship must help an individual build relevant skill while learning from his weaknesses and overcoming problems. Ensure you will receive relevant feedback on a regular basis. This will help you improve and gain confidence in your abilities which would make you well prepared to face any given situation when you start working full time.
